Birds of a Feather Collaborative Project

Poet and Artist Christy Sheffield Sanford and I met as part of the local PAM Jam collaboration here in St. Augustine. The collaboration brings poets, artists, and musicians together to craft work that is presented to help raise funds for local organizations, such as hospitals. What the organizers didn’t count on was a pandemic, so while the project has still moved forward, flexibility became key.

An incredible video is the result of Christy’s efforts in the collaboration. My artwork is featured alongside Christy’s poetry, but the video moves to another level with music and interpretation. Not only did she serve as videographer, but Christy also recruited two folks who make the video come alive: musician Chris Carlson whose original music is featured and Duffy Bishop who serves as the interpreter, reading the poems in her beautiful blues singer voice.

And there’s more…we have a book! I’m really excited to announce the publication of the Birds of a Feather book, again featuring poetry by Christy and images from my Birds of a Feather visual art series. The Birds of a Feather book is now available online in my Shop and on Amazon, and also in-person at my hometown gallery, Butterfield Garage.
